Your host Stephen, would love to help you with any destinations you would like to visit while staying in Belize. There are many wonderful places to see around and near Orchid Bay such as Cerros ruins, Lamanai ruins, the fishing village of Sarteneja, the nearby Wildtracks Conservation and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, or simply visiting the local towns of Corozal and Orange Walk. In addition it is also possible to visit Ambergris Caye by water taxi or plane for a day trip to scuba, snorkelling Holchan/Shark Ray Alley, or just sailing along the reef.
Off-Site Adventures
Visit Lamanai, the ancient Mayan Metropolis in the heart of Belize. Stephen will either tell you how to get to the departure point on the New River at Lamanai Eco Tours or escort you on the fabulous 25 mile boat trip up river to the ruins. Stephen is not a guide but can accompany you on the trip that he rates #1 in all Belize. The boat drivers/guides are exceedingly knowledgeable of all things Mayan and superb naturalists. Also available are fishing tours on the New River and Lamanai Lagoon.
Hike through the lush tropical rainforest of Punta Alegre, home of the unexcavated Mayan ruins, an early 20th century Chilero Camp and crystal-clear Barracuda Lake. Explore the Mayan ruins at Cerros Ruins or visit the butterfly breeding center at Shipstern Reserve just a few miles away. Shopping Malls, movies, and museums are all 1 hour away in Chetumal Mexico.
The most spectacular, exciting and unforgettable trip up the New River by boat into the heart of Belize is a tour of the Mayan Ruins at Lamanai. We highly recommend our friends at Lamanai Eco Tours, Errol Cadle, Proprietor.
